Designing a Safe Space

interior designs Jun 22, 2022

Since March, Chalia owns an interior design business, Chalia by Design. She offers online interior design services for retirees and empty nesters who own short to mid-term rentals (Airbnb's & Vrbo's, etc.).

Currently, she is running a beta trial for June and offering a free room design to help get things off the ground.

She works with sixty plus, retired with an extra property that they used for vacation when their children were younger. "They love to host people, still want to work but on their terms and maybe need some extra cash to travel and do all the things they enjoy and worked so hard to be able to do," Chalia explains.

She took a career placement test in 2010, Interior Design was one of the top careers on the list. "I started looking into it and fell in love. I have been pursuing a career in the field ever since.

Now more than ever, having an amazing design aesthetic for your rental is important. "SO many people are putting their hat in the game, including established hotels, so it's imperative that the look of a rental can compete on a high-quality level," Warren elaborates.

Becoming a business owner while being a mom was not easy for Chalia. She is a stay-at-home mom. Her husband is a nurse who works overnight. "Mornings and afternoons I'm trying to keep my daughter kind of quiet (when we're home) and at night it's just us and on top of that she would wake up so early in the morning, like before the sunrise. Once I determined I would get up before her she would wake up like 15 min before that time and it just felt like I never had time to myself, or to plan. I would use nights to work on getting things done for the business and she would take forever to fall asleep or not want to go to sleep without me holding her or her hands. It was rough for a bit, but we made it through that phase. My husband also is not working as much as he used to so that gives me a lot more space to plan out self-care and working, as well," she explains.

Everyone feels like they are an imposter when they are leveling up. Especially when you come from a broken or impoverished past. Because Chalia did not take the traditional route of schooling, the doubt became suffocating at times. "I have felt like I don't belong in the designer space, plenty of times. But my heart is wired for this... like what else is there for me to do. Every time I try something else, I just feel the pull back. I know this is what I am made for, and the way I will aid in changing this world," Warren explains.

Despite the obstacles she has faced, Chalia Warren has been able to rise to the occasion. Getting her website completed wanted to climb Mt. Everest for her. In addition to completing her to-do list, she is learning how to balance being a mom and a business. "I had to be much sterner about her bedtime and produce a morning routine that was healthy and worked better for us. I would try to get up at 5a, make the bed, open the curtains (although it was still dark), take a shower + pray. After I finished that she was usually waking up, I would help her make her bed + we would go outside, first thing in the morning, come back in about an hour then make breakfast + listen to music. Now, I live in the desert, so wintertime was not cold, so it worked for us," she expressed.

With the foundation laid since childhood, Chalia has been able to design a life that works for her and her family. Her upbringing gave her a great perspective. Overcoming the traumatic experiences, she has had in her life has made Chalia realize that there is nothing she cannot accomplish! Her upbringing and traumatic experiences set the stage for Chalia to design a safe space.

Here at Jay's Intuitive Life Coaching and Inspired Healing, LLC we have a saying that we like to use. "Healing is a journey, not a destination." We asked Chalia Warren if she could give moms who aspire to start the businesses and continue their healing journey any advice, what would it be? She offered this, " As long as you do not give up, you win! Keep going momma, your bad days are only teaching moments. You are in the middle of an epic saga; it is gloomiest in the middle... do not stop there!"
